YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CANNOT HIDE: Where do reality stars go when they may hope to escape the furor over their short-lived marriage? Australia. At least if you’re Kim Kardashian, who flew into one of the biggest media scrums that Sydney International Airport has seen in a while on Wednesday morning. A 100-strong crowd of photographers, camera crews and fans greeted the arrival of Kardashian, who was flanked by sister Khloé, her own security team, members of the airport’s security staff and both state and federal police officers. The business trip — to promote the Australian launch of the Kardashian Kollection handbag line — was organized with the Kardashians’ Sydney-based licensee Bruno Schiavi long before Kim filed for divorce from her husband of 72 days, NBA player Kris Humphries, on Monday. But naturally it was all anyone wanted to talk about on the red carpet at Wednesday night’s launch party at the Hugo’s Lounge nightclub in Kings Cross. Ashen-faced, Kardashian cold-shouldered any reporters who dared breach the no-personal-questions p.r. directive, before retiring to the bar with Khloé, her husband Lamar Odom, and former Spice Girl and “X-Factor Australia” judge Melanie Brown and husband Stephen Belafonte.
The chaos was due to start up again this morning at the Sydney flagship of Australian department store chain David Jones, where the Kardashians were booked to sign autographs for the first 200 people to buy one of their bags. Paparazzi who have flown in especially to keep up with this particular Kardashian will then decamp to Victoria, where Kim is due to fly solo at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday for the Emirates Stakes Day, the final day of the week-long Melbourne Cup Carnival which this year has attracted other boldface names such as Dita Von Teese, Sarah Jessica Parker, Joan Collins and Philip Treacy.
