Marta Ortega to Wed in Zara Dress

The daughter of Inditex founder Amancio Ortega will marry fellow equestrian Sergio Alvarez on Feb. 18.

ZARA BRIDE: Marta Ortega, the 28-year-old daughter of Inditex founder and Spain’s richest man Amancio Ortega (who’s worth an estimated $31 billion, according to Forbes magazine), will marry fellow equestrian Sergio Alvarez on Feb. 18 in a dress made by — naturally — Zara, the global fast-fashion retailer and the largest chain in Inditex’s global stable. That much has been confirmed but nothing more. “The company cannot talk about this issue; there is no official comment and no inside information available. We are maintaining a high level of privacy,” declared an Inditex spokesman. What is known is that the ceremony will take place in a walled 17th-century country estate, called pazo Drozo, a stone’s throw from Zara headquarters in the north of Spain that is also owned by the very private Ortega. A guest list of about 100 is expected to attend, including the young Ortega’s long-time friend and fellow rider Athina Onassis.

As to whether this will mark the launch of a Zara bridal line, the spokesman said, “The whole idea is absolutely crazy.”
