The annual event, scheduled at Pier 57 on Sept. 9, spotlights emerging talent in the industry. This year’s designer roster will feature Anne Sofie Madsen, Amanda Lew Kee, Raif Adelberg, Chloé Comme Parris, Comeforbreakfast and Gretchen Jones. Accessories-wise, GenArt will showcase the work of A-Morir, the hand-embellished eyewear line by Kerin Rose Weinberg.
“Fresh Faces is different this season because our designers are a bit more established than in previous years,” said Aurora James, curator of Fresh Faces in Fashion. “We’re really trying to take designers who were well known in their own markets and give them a bigger platform — one of the biggest platforms in the world, New York Fashion Week.’
The lineup is also international in scope. Madsen, for instance, hails from Denmark, and Comeforbreakfast designers Antonio Romano and Francesco Alagna are Italian.
Kee, meanwhile, is Canadian, as are Chloé Comme Parris designers Chloé and Parris Gordon. Jones and A-Morir are both from the U.S. Moroccanoil is the title sponsor.
In the past, GenArt featured now-established names like Rodarte, Rebecca Taylor and Phillip Lim. “We’ve made a lot of changes to GenArt this season and the way we are presenting the show,” said GenArt chief executive officer Marc Lotenberg. “It’s going to have a lot of energy, and we’re making it more of an event than a simple runway presentation. On top of showcasing great clothing, we’re also going to put more of an emphasis on beauty trends for spring.”
