Simon Kneen, the brand's creative director and executive vice president, describes the collection as very “heroine and hero."

While many firms are wrapping up resort, others are looking to holiday. At Banana Republic, Simon Kneen, creative director and executive vice president, claims he was in an aristocratic state of mind even before Prince William proposed to Kate, which is when he started working on the label’s holiday collection. “It’s definitely heroine and hero this season,” he said during the presentation on Tuesday at The Lion in New York. There were tailored peacoats and practical workwear pants countered by party dresses and sequined blazers — because, as Kneen said, “Who doesn’t want a little subtle sparkle?”

The men’s wear, however, skewed toward the outdoors with cable-knit sweaters, heavy brushed cotton chinos and anoraks doubling as outerwear. Accessories channeled the season via printed bow ties in whimsical patterns such as snowflakes or skiers, along with striped cashmere scarves and plaid flannel trapper hats.
