“There’s no more need for basics,” said Douglas Hannant, referring to his second Insignia collection, which was shown to just a few stores last season and is officially launching for fall. The 100-piece lineup, wholesaling from $250 to $500, is full of “special pieces,” he said, that mirror the “fit, workmanship and style” of his designer line. While there is an abundance of separates here — taffeta shirts, embroidered jackets, ribbon and tulle skirts — the strength lies in the simpler easy dresses, such as the knee-grazing tulle T-shirt bedecked in gold sequins.
