Topshop’s New York debut is still four months off, but Sir Philip Green is in town to whet Stateside appetites with a taste of the affordable fashion to come. Today, Green will host a preview of Topshop and Topman’s fall collections at Industria Studios, which has been transformed to convey the full London fast-fashion experience, underscored by a running reel of activity filmed at Topshop’s Oxford Street flagship, and catering by Serena Bass. Of course, today’s menu also includes clothes, most of them an ode to various British motifs. In addition to Kate Moss’ collection, still a reflection of her eclectic personal style, there’s punk in plaid jackets, a webby, slashed sweater and a fringed leather skirt. A riff on “Alice in Wonderland” comes via a flirty diamond-print minidress and a heart-print tunic. And it wouldn’t be English without a few smartly tailored pieces, such as boyish blazers. Even so, the overall vibe — epitomized by the sequined and feathered cocktail dresses — is young and girly, which seems to please Green. As he said while looking over the setup Tuesday morning: “I think we have a shot.”
