The natural progression for any ambitious fashion brand is to receive an investment from a private equity firm and then expand into new categories.
Bailey44, a Los Angeles-based contemporary company founded in 2006, is proof. After joining Norwest Venture Partners’ portfolio of investments last year as its only fashion property, Bailey44 is readying to ship 15 styles of fashion knits for the fall season.
Unveiled at ENKVegas, the collection uses cashmere-cotton yarn as the supple base for crewneck pullovers covered in eco-leather, ombré sweaters and V-neck tops accented with three-quarter sleeves and silk backing, among other pieces.
The palette is drenched in chocolate brown, orange, gray and other colors evoking autumnal foliage.
Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue have already shown interest in the new grouping, which retails from $150 to $350, according to Bailey44 cofounder Ruthy Emsallem-Grode. Fashion knits mark the beginning of further growth. “We’re adding different categories,” she said.
A new Joan Rivers coffee table book, titled “Joan Rivers Confidential,” gives readers never-before-seen photos and letters of the late comedian throughout her life. “Because of her drive to always be fresh, she kept records of every appearance, every performance, all the jokes that were used on TV, all the clothes that were worn,” said Rivers’ daughter Melissa.
