When Avon hired celebrity stylist Britt Bardo to style some of its shoots for the company’s Mark catalogue, little did it know she would soon be working for the company as a designer.

“Watching Britt from afar, I’ve been so impressed with her aesthetic and ability to take pieces and put them together in a fresh, modern way,” said Claudia Poccia, global president of Mark. “As soon as we brought her on to style we could see that we had this unbelievable talent here, someone who was making her mark (sic) on the industry.”

So, the Mark team and Bardo came out with the Britt Bardo Collection by Mark, a three-piece essentials mix. There’s the “Only Need Me Tee,” a longer-length fitted T-shirt with open neck and cap sleeves made in Tencel; the Tencel “Cover Up Cardigan,” a long sweater that comes with extra long cuffs, and the “Slip Into This Dress,” a polyester and spandex slipdress with adjustable straps. The T-shirt retails at $24, the cardigan at $28 and the dress at $26. The collection will be available through Mark sales representatives and at in October.

“We wanted to start out easy and straightforward,” Bardo said. “We thought about three staples, something user friendly. These are all a variation on pieces I live in all the time. Who doesn’t need a great cardigan or an interesting T-shirt to mix and match?”

For Bardo, this collaboration isn’t her first foray into design. Besides styling Hollywood notables including Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Eva Mendes and Maggie Gyllenhaal, Bardo also had her own contemporary clothing line, Rose. After four seasons at retail, Bardo said she has put the brand on hiatus due to the economy and the loss of her financial backer. But after selling that collection to high-end specialty stores like Barneys New York and Satine, Bardo said she is looking forward to offering people a more affordable, but just as fashion-forward collection of items.

To help promote the new collection, Bardo has filmed a video, which will air on in October. The video highlights some of Bardo’s ideas for styling with the three items.

Founded by Avon Products Inc. in 2003, Mark is the company’s beauty and fashion boutique brand aimed at a younger set. The Mark product collection, sold directly to consumers through the Web site and Mark representatives, consists of first-to-market exclusive products in the categories of makeup, skin care, fragrance, apparel and accessories.

Looking forward, Bardo said she is in talks to create more products for Mark.
