CHAUS’ EXTENDED DEAL: Bernard Chaus Inc. has expanded its agreement with China Ting Group Holdings Ltd., which acts as the exclusive supplier of merchandise purchased by Chaus in Asia. The companies have been working together for 10 years and this new agreement is also long term. The deal allows China Ting to supply merchandise for all of Chaus’ brands, including Cynthia Steffe and licensed Kenneth Cole product. “Over the years they have been one of our more important merchandise suppliers in many product categories, utilizing their substantial and impressive production capabilities,” said Josephine Chaus, chairwoman and chief executive officer at Chaus. “We are confident that our newly expanded relationship will enable us to improve the innovation, quality and value of our products, increase our speed-to-market, reduce our costs and strengthen our balance sheet.”
SIZE MATTERS: After much talk about tailoring assortments to meet demand at the individual store level, retailers are finally starting to optimize size selections at each store. Nordstrom Inc. said Tuesday it plans to use Oracle software to tweak size offerings by type of merchandize and location. Last week, Wet Seal Inc. said it had begun rolling out similar software from SAS. “We expect this will minimize markdowns and lost sales,” said Wet Seal chief information officer Jon Kubo.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia.
