CHICAGO — Fashion Group International of Chicago added some drama to its sixth annual Rising Stars Awards night last month at the James Hotel, announcing for the first time winners from a collection of finalists.

In the past, the Windy City chapter of Fashion Group bypassed finalists, generally selecting only one local winner pre-event in the categories of apparel, accessories and retail, among others.

This year, designer Abigail Glaum-Lathbury, a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, took home honors in the apparel category, receiving more votes than finalists Elise Bergman, Frei Designs, Katrin Schnabl and Serpico.

In accessories, local line Lisa Kingsley Handbags topped Dana Rebecca Designs, Haji Couture, Julia Failey and Lana Jewelry.

For beauty, Halo (For Men) a growing collection of men’s salons and spas in the city, won the Rising Star award amid finalists Amazing Cosmetics, Blo Salon and Spa, Cheesecake Handmade Beauty and Votre Vu.

In the retail category, eco-friendly boutique Pivot was cited among finalists Florodora, Gamma Player, Ouest and Post 27.

For interiors, Studio F topped Bryan Bilczewski Design, Christopher Michiels, Inc., Hughes N’Cho-Allepot Home and Steven Haulenbeek.

Lastly, in the public relations category, J. Lynne PR won from a field including Grace Public Relations, Hatch PR, Skirt PR and Zapwater Communications.
