NEW YORK — Sweetness permeated spring-summer at the Nouveau Collection show in the form of sherbet-hued dresses, jackets and separates.
The show, which ran from Sunday to Tuesday at the New Yorker Hotel here, attracted about 1,700 buyers, matching last year, said Nouveau Collection producer Joanne Feinstein. There were 140 labels, including Bkg & Company, Cartise, Surrealist/Free Lunch, Fresh Tea, Iridium Apparel, Krista Lee, Mycra Pac, Nicola Berti, Sacred Threads, Trimdin, Winding River and Zoe Designs. Many lines were selling spring merchandise for immediate delivery, as well as showing summer.
For the March show, Nouveau Collective will change its locale to the Park Central New York here, Feinstein said
Lightweight outerwear seems to be a must-have item for spring, although dresses were plentiful. The jacket appears to be an essential piece to any spring wardrobe, whether a supple leather blazer from Nicola Berti, a pearlized slicker with a patent finish from Mycra Pac or a white cotton jacket with embroidered flowers by new label and first time exhibitor Krista Lee.
Winding River and Trimdin offered a multitude of colorful spring outerwear in reversible cottons and chenille satin blends, wholesaling from $60 to $89. For three-year-old Winding River, in the midst of its most successful season, the top colors for spring among buyers were seafoam green and aqua, said co-owner Maria Reisman. As for the Trimdin collection, in its first year, Reisman said the line is more urban, sophisticated and fitted. Although pastel colors sold well for the newer line, a reversible cotton jacket in a black-and-white and coral print, wholesaling for $89, was the bestseller. The collections are available at stores such as Saratoga Clothes Horse in Saratoga, N.Y., Purple Plume in Lenox, Mass., and The Tag Shop in Lancaster, Pa.
"Winding River and Trimdin were phenomenal finds,'' said Barry Klein, co-owner of The Tag Shop. "It was exactly what we needed to bolster our image and inventory. They have a geometric feel to them, but there was also one long jacket that we ordered that had an Asian flavor. By and large, most of the jackets had geometric patterns and we elected to order bright pastel colors for spring with cream and tan backgrounds."Klein also purchased spring jackets from Dorman Fashion that are lime green and reverse to purple, as well as sweaters from Pure Handknit in rich corals and Mediterranean blues.
At Mycra Pac, which sells raincoats to major chains like Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew, waterproof outerwear was in demand, said president and owner Sharon Huebschwerlen. The brand's bestseller was a pearlized slicker in white, black and hot pink. Another big seller was the waterproof, breathable, shirt jacket that comes in either a pastel blue or pink plaid that's anchored with tan, blue and black. Wholesale prices are $100 to $125 for the slickers and $100 for the shirt jacket.
Iridium Apparel designer and owner Daphne O'Donnell saw interest in cotton T-shirts available in sleeveless, short-sleeve, three-quarter and trapeze styles. The shirts, which wholesale from $15 to $24, are most popular in a dusty peach, a gray-beige and seafoam and lime greens.
"It is comfortable clothing that is easy to take care of. It's casual and comes in lots of colors, so it's fun, kind of after-work and weekend clothing," O'Donnell said.
In her first season, O'Donnell created a Travel for Pleasure line to provide women on the go with comfortable, stylish clothes that are easy to pack and don't wrinkle. The 100 percent nylon separates include a pant that comes with tabs and buttons at the hem that allow the wearer to adjust the length and width of the pant. The "travel pant" wholesales for $48.

“I do like period [projects] a lot because I like creating those worlds, a world that is different from today," costume designer Mark Bridges said about the '50s British couture featured in @phantomthread. Bridges created the overall aesthetic and individual fashion looks for the film, which stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Lesley Manville and Vicky Krieps. Pictured here is a gown he designed for Krieps who plays Alma – the love interest of Day-Lewis' character, Reynolds Woodcock. #wwdfashion

“I think I never met the person while we were working,” Vicky Krieps said of Daniel Day-Lewis, who she plays the love interest of in “Phantom Thread.” Day-Lewis remained perennially in character, so much so that she feels she’s just meeting him now. “It’s interesting to see how different he is in real life to the character,” Krieps said. WWD sat down with the 34-year-old actress to talk about her new role in the period film, which brings the fifties’ gender dynamics into the mix. Read more on WWD.com. #wwdeye (📷: @lexieblacklock)
