Ron Chereskin will return to designing a men’s sportswear collection for the fall 2012 season. The designer has been brought out of retirement by Martin Erani, owner of loungewear and sleepwear manufacturer J.E.M. International Inc., who in January acquired the Ron Chereskin trademarks from Bluestar Alliance LLC.

Erani has formed a new entity called Red Eye Apparel to oversee the re-launched Ron Chereskin men’s sportswear collection and its related licenses. Erani’s partners in the venture are his cousin, Ezra Erani, and Jimmy Khezrie, owner of the Jimmy Jazz and Man Alive retail chains.

The contemporary sportswear collection under the reimagined Ron Chereskin brand will be targeted at better department and specialty stores, with prices ranging from $125 to $800. Categories in the line will include tailored jackets, knits, wovens, bottoms, sport jackets and rainwear.

“I am delighted to be back. I believe in offering casual American elegance,” said Chereskin, who sold his trademarks to Bluestar Alliance in September 2007 and stopped designing shortly thereafter as the new owners focused on a licensing model for the brand.

Red Eye Apparel has licensed a new men’s underwear collection to Erani’s J.E.M. International, which will launch next summer. J.E.M. International also produces loungewear and sleepwear for Rocawear, And1 and Coogi.

The previous Ron Chereskin underwear licensee was Chano International, which had the license for over two decades. “They were doing volume but not the fashion looks we are going for now,” said Chereskin.

A licensed tailored clothing range will be produced by Respekt-Wear Apparel Group, also launching next fall.

Erani has ended Ron Chereskin licenses in seven other categories to focus on the sportswear, underwear and tailored clothing. Other licenses will be signed as the brand regains traction at retail, he noted.
