It’s seldom only about the clothes at a Betsey Johnson fashion show. This time, she headed to the Plaza Hotel and served up a bevy of uptown girls ready to rock ’n’ roll (complete with a rowdy soundtrack courtesy of the New Wave/punk band Ida Maria). There are always so many of her trademark looks chez Johnson that it is often hard to decipher the news, but what did look fresh in this mainly party-dress collection were the sequin leopard prints in the form of a body-skimming cocktail number and pouf-skirt bustier dress. There was plenty of contrasting color, too — hot pink and brown, royal blue and black — either on tulle or in dramatic hairpieces. While the fashion news may be scarce here, the collection was definitely a celebration of Betsey Johnson and her lovable world.
