“There is no reference to the past,” said Carolina Herrera during apreview. “I’m trying to go to the future.” Forecasting fall 2014, thefuture is subdued by day and bold by night.


Herrera’s bid for a new daywear proportion — volume with roundedshoulders on top, over slim skirts and pants — yielded strong returns. Agray mélange cashmere turtleneck, cut with extra breathing room andshown with a flannel skirt, felt new and youthful. The rich butrelatively quiet palette of brown, navy and royal blue gave a moneyedtimelessness to the swing jackets and straight skirts with luxe accents,like the silver fox collar on a navy coat.
