By now, everyone probably knows how Diane von Furstenberg’s fairytale began: “I became a princess, then it was on to Rome to Marrakesh,to Jaipur — to all of that,” she said during a preview, her tonematter-of-fact, as if marrying a prince and gallivanting around theworld were the most ordinary things a young woman could do. Thedesigner’s princess moment served as the inspiration for a strongcollection full of pretty colors, bold prints and a hefty dose ofembellishment, with much commercial appeal.

Von Furstenberg,working with creative director Yvan Mispelaere, layered several dressesover pants, including a draped one-shoulder version with trousers in thesame colorful print, and a linear navy halter dress over fluid orangepants. Adornment abounded: She decked out a suit and a top in littlemetal spheres, which she also piled onto her statement-making heels.Draped blouses with billowing sleeves and palazzo pants added to thecollection’s glamour. “She’s a rebel princess who dresses up, but at thesame time she can’t wait to sneak out and go clubbing,” von Furstenbergsaid.

Some fairy tales have multiple chapters: During the show’sfinale, von Furstenberg pulled Google cofounder Sergey Brin on therunway to show off the new, spectaclelike Glass by Google accessory. Allthese years later, DVF still hasn’t lost her ability to pick the rightguy.
