Never underestimate the power of a good coat. Donna Karan underwroteher DKNY collection on that premise, putting out all manner of tailoredtoppers, such as riding coats, boyfriend jackets, vests and peacoats, with stellar results. They came classically cut in angora and meltonwools in a fall palette of camel, burgundy, ivory and gray with aplayful plaid thrown in. Shearlings, leather trims and knit riding capsadded an equestrian pedigree, yet the mood was kept light with kickyminiskirts done in knife-pleated leather. That sharp, linear sensibilityworked back to colorblocking and geometric patterns that introducedpops of blue and silver to the mix on intarsia dresses and Karan’stwisted knit cozy. It made for a modern play between tradition andKaran’s signature comfort zone.
