Finally a little pizzazz, Italian style. In a seamless about-face from last season’s quiet pretty, Consuelo Castiglioni delivered a giant jolt of energy and a kooky cartoony aura to an otherwise calm Milan moment. She put her arty eclectic on steroids, mixing and mis-matching kaleidoscope prints with electric sheers, stripes and plaids, all with a techy, anime finish. Fabrics, such as large scale lace dots and finely textured mesh florals, were terrific twists on the traditional. As for the shapes, Castiglioni shed the swaddling sack dresses that ruled for so long for a slimmer, sexier silhouette that was layered still. Two-in-one cardigans and tunics, some with a zip up T-shirt back, were belted over body-grazing skirts for day. Similar cuts got fancier for night with shimmery paillettes and painterly bunched chiffon. Topped off with the exaggerated accessories – multicolored platform heels and arts-and-crafts earrings and collars that seemed to be resin melted into tulips – the looks were over the top, but they charmed. And all those layers are meant to be dissected and interpreted for the individual, a girl who wants to stand out.
