Backstage pre-show, Yigal Azrouël said he had “precision” and “bold lines” in mind for his spring women’s collection. Asymmetric straps and geometric cut-outs on body-conscious jersey dresses and flesh-baring crop tops made his point. Elsewhere, he went in a streetwise direction — more so than ever — by way of black leather shorts, spiffed-up sweat pants and a spare palette of nude, black and white broken up by a rare shot of yellow. Leather jacket-wearing types are loving that look, and they’ll line up for Azrouël’s zippered gray and parka styles. In that way, the collection was very of-the-moment, but in his pursuit of all things edgy and sexy, Azrouël lost some of the sophistication of his past collections.
