Nautica Apparel Inc. has signed a licensing deal with Arvind Lifestyle Brands Ltd. to distribute men’s and women’s sportswear in India. Arvind takes over all operations and existing stores from Planet Retail. There are currently 12 freestanding stores and six in-store shops in department stores in India.
Under the terms of the deal, Arvind will begin selling the apparel immediately through this distribution network.
“We are excited to be working with Arvind Lifestyle Brands on the further development of this market,” said Maria Vicari, president of global licensing for Nautica. “As we continue to grow our brand footprint internationally with our licensed operators around the globe, we look to Arvind with their significant expertise in brand building in India, to grow the Nautica brand’s presence in this important emerging market. Arvind’s competency in retail expansion, coupled with their understanding of apparel positioning, will support our expansion strategy.”
J. Suresh, managing director and chief executive officer of Arvind Lifestyle Brands Ltd. and Arvind Retail Ltd., added: “Nautica already has a strong equity in the Indian market and our effort will be to leverage and enhance the equity of the brand, expand distribution rapidly and develop Nautica into one of the power brands in the Indian apparel market.”
