Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, is delving further into fashion with an XO artist capsule collection celebrating his Starboy: Legend of the Fall world tour. Futura 2000, one of the best known of a group of graffiti artists who in the Seventies illegally painted New York subway cars, collaborated with The Weeknd and lent his style to bomber jackets, Levi’s embroidered denim jackets, caps, hoodies and T-shirts. The collection will bow on today at Union Los Angeles pop-up.
The line will also be available at the singer’s Forum shows in Los Angeles on Saturday and Sunday. The capsule will be sold during The Weeknd’s tour dates in Toronto on May 26 and New York on June 6 and 7 at pop-up shops operated by Bravado, which specializes in sales, licensing, branding marketing and distribution for recording artists.
Futura 2000’s tag is evident in the collection, which features The Weeknd’s XO brand logo, Starboy album lyrics and color palette.
The Weeknd, who made headlines when he began dating Selena Gomez, in February lent his sartorial style with H&M as a guest stylist. His selects, dubbed Spring Icons, consisted of essential wardrobe pieces, “chosen by one of the world’s most celebrated artists.” The Weeknd said his style informed the selections, which included utility and streetwear silhouettes with tailored lines.
Then, there’s The Weeknd’s highly anticipated sneaker collaboration with Puma, which will have the dual branding of The Weeknd’s XO label and the German sneaker brand’s logo. The performer teased an image of the sneaker on Instagram but didn’t reveal when it will be released.
