In the Berlin neighborhood of Mitte, the looks were street smart and superhip, reflecting local graffiti, galleries and street art. Acne and American Apparel or concept shops that sell Dries Van Noten are the go-to retailers. Friedrichstrasse, a rather sophisticated area, is home to more formal museums and stores like Gucci and Prada. Everywhere, men and women opt for trench coats, parkas and favorite accessories — sneakers and backpacks — but nothing seems more precious or popular than a terrific scarf. Vintage is mixed with new and the operative dress code is practical, simple with an added twist of one’s own.
