NEW YORK -- The International Wool Secretariat, Ilkley, England, and the Australian Wool Research and Promotion Organization, Melbourne, Australia, are combining operations.

The aim is to form a stronger and more customer-focused international wool marketing and research organization, according to The Wool Bureau.

Both organizations focus primarily on promotion and research activities in support of apparel wools.

In the U.S., the IWS operates through its branch known as The Wool Bureau.

Mac Drysdale, chairman of both IWS and AWRAP, said Wednesday the decision came after an extensive review of their operations was made by the Boston Consulting Group.

He noted that IWS and AWRAP will remain separate legal entities but will combine their operations, "so that the world's wool manufacturers and consumers deal with one fully integrated marketing and research organization."
