NEW YORK — International Textile Group is restructuring its apparel fabric divisions to operate under one business group.
The new segment, dubbed ITG Apparel & Specialty Fabrics, will bring Cone Denim and Burlington WorldWide under the same management umbrella. Current Burlington president Kenneth T. Kunberger has been named president of ITG Apparel & Specialty Fabrics. Kunberger joined Burlington Industries as an executive vice president in 1998 and was named president in 2004. Prior to joining Burlington, Kunberger served stints with Liz Claiborne and VF Corp. In his new post, he will lead the cotton products group, a combination of the Cone Denim and Burlington cotton casual businesses.
“Combining our apparel resources into a single business provides a simpler, more robust platform to leverage our strengths and offer customers greater support within a more flexible, cost-competitive structure,” said Joseph L. Gorga, president and chief executive officer of ITG.
Thomas McKenna, president of Cone Denim, has decided to leave the company but will work through a transition period, according to the company. McKenna’s tenure as head of the iconic Cone division lasted two weeks shy of a year. He joined Cone in 1981 and opened the company’s first international sales office in Brussels. He moved to Singapore in 1995 to serve as director of marketing for the Asia-Pacific market. And, in 2004, when Wilbur L. Ross purchased Cone and Burlington Industries and formed ITG, McKenna was named Cone’s president of sales and marketing until assuming his most recent post last January.
Other products falling under the apparel group will be led by Jeff Peck, executive vice president of technical and specialty products, and Patrick Palmer, executive vice president of worsted wool products.
