NEW YORK — Lynn Misiak has been named executive director of the Acrylic Council, succeeding Herb Rabinowitz, one of the organization’s founders.

Rabinowitz retired last month after serving as head of the council for 5 1/2 years. He continues to be associated with the organization as a consultant.

In her new role, Misiak is charged with developing strategies aimed at increasing the sales of acrylic fiber for the 14-member council, which comprises fiber producers, yarn spinners and raw material suppliers.

She will also absorb her former responsibilities as the council’s director of marketing.

Misiak joined the council as advertising manager at its inception in July 1988. She was named director of marketing in January 1992. From 1980 through 1987, she was an account executive with N.W. Ayer, an advertising agency here.

Rabinowitz, 69, began his business career as a salesman for his father, George, who owned George Rabinowitz & Co., a men’s clothing producer here.

He also held executive positions with Associated Merchandising Corp., the former Chemstrand Corp. and Monsanto.
