Werner Bieri, the founding chief executive officer of Buhler Quality Yarns Corp., died Saturday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, after a long fight with leukemia, the company said Tuesday. He was 60.


Bieri’s experience in the global textile market spanned more than 25 years. He served as managing director of parent company Hermann Bühler AG, based in Sennhof, Switzerland, for 11 years before launching Buhler Quality Yarns in Jefferson, Ga., in 1996. Under his helm, Buhler Quality Yarns survived the upheaval of the American textiles industry to become one of the leaders in the sector today.
