The facility, similar to one earlier planned for Dhaka, Bangladesh, will open on Thursday, the second day of a two-day seminar called “The Denim Innovation Forum 2013,” to be held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Guangzhou. Along with Jeanologia and Prosperity, participants in the event, which will include live demonstrations of Jeanologia’s equipment and software, are Invista, Clariant, Lenzing, Texhong, Stylesight, the Kingpins Show and Inside Fashion. Kingpins is produced by Olah Inc., which recently was designated the North American marketing and sales representative for Prosperity.
According to Enrique Silla, president of Jeanologia, about 30 percent of the jeans produced in Europe and the Americas are made using the company’s technology, a penetration level not yet reached in Asia.
Silla said that, despite changes in labor, raw material and transportation costs, China will remain the world’s biggest jeans producer.
“The times of shifting production from one country to another seeking lower labor costs are over,” he said. “We are entering the era of technological efficiency. In a few years, no pants will be manufactured without the use of green technologies.”
The center will be used to train workers on Jeanologia’s machinery and software and, according to Silla, will be “an example of the factory of the future….Jeanologia and Prosperity are aware that the industry is changing and we not only need to invest in machinery and technology, but it is necessary to train people in the new methods.”
On Wednesday, the first day of the forum, Fernando Cardona, development director of Jeanologia, will speak on the future of the jeans market in China and provide insights into the laser and ozone sustainable technologies promulgated by the company.
