The Australian Fashion Chamber has been established to further the growth of Australian fashion locally and globally.

The founding members are Edwina McCann, editor in chief of Vogue Australia; Malcolm Carfrae, executive vice president, communications, Calvin Klein Inc.; Anthony Kendal, communications director, MyTheresa.com; Melissa Grace, fashion communications manager, The Woolmark Co., and Kara Hurry, marketing, Sydney-based OrotonGroup (Gap and Brooks Brothers.).
“The AFC is a welcome addition to Australia’s fashion landscape that will help foster young talent and create sustainable, unique and inspiring businesses of which we will all be proud,” said McCann, who will also serve as chairman of the AFC.
The AFC will sponsor training conferences and mentoring programs and will support multiple design awards. It plans to introduce the AFC Awards, presented by AMP Capital Centres at the end of 2014. It will be an annual award for established designers to support the globalization of Australian talent.
AFC will be encompass designers, retailers and creative directors for hair, makeup, photography, art and graphics.
Toni & Guy is the first partner to commit and support the AFC across all initiatives. AFC will also work alongside IMG Fashion, Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival and the Textile Fashion Institute of Australia.
On April 10, during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, the AFC will introduce its board of executive and non-executive directors and will provide insight into planned activities. It will also provide a forum for the industry to give feedback on how the AFC can best support designers in achieving their business objectives.
