Fausto Puglisi Inks Licensing Deal With Gilmar

The first fruits of the agreement will be unveiled in June, when Puglisi will present his resort collection in New York.

MILAN — Fausto Puglisi has signed a four-year licensing agreement with Italian manufacturing company Gilmar for the production of his namesake women’s wear brand.

“The business is going really well. We are getting great feedback from both department stores and independent boutiques, so we needed a manufacturing company like Gilmar that can support the growth of the label,” Puglisi, who launched his own firm in 2010, told WWD. “Teaming up with Gilmar was an instinctive choice because there is a great feeling between myself and Paolo [Gerani, chief executive officer of Gilmar], who is young and has a great vision.”

“Gilmar has always supported talented designers. Fausto Puglisi is an example of Italian excellence in the world,” said Gerani, whose group also manufactures under license the collections of No. 21, Brooksfield and Paolo Pecora, along with producing and distributing its house labels Iceberg and Ice Iceberg. “I’m really glad to start this prestigious collaboration that marks an important stage in the development strategy of the Gerani Group. I think that Fausto Puglisi is a brand with a great potential on an international level, and I am confident that the strong creative vision of Fausto and the great production know-how of Gilmar will yield excellent results.”

Positioned at the high end of the market, the Fausto Puglisi label is sold in 170 specialty and department stores around the world, including Bergdorf Goodman, which celebrated the launch of the line in its store with a party last month; Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills; Selfridges in London; Joyce in Hong Kong, and Harvey Nichols in Dubai.

Puglisi, who was appointed creative director of Emanuel Ungaro in 2012, said that in the last few months he has received offers from important luxury groups interested in buying his company. “I’ll never sell my company, because I want to remain completely independent,” Puglisi affirmed.
