Previously, Castro Martinez was head of the international government affairs department at Swiss luxury group Compagnie Financière Richemont. At LVMH, she reports to Pierre Godé, adviser to chairman Bernard Arnault.

LVMH said Castro Martinez would be responsible for managing relations with shareholders and coordinate “issues management,” public affairs and sustainability.

It is understood Castro Martinez, a lawyer by training, has a broad purview at LVMH, charged with improving the image of the group and ensuring good business practices. She is also expected to spearhead relations with European competition policymakers, which are reviewing regulations allowing for selective distribution networks.

Castro Martinez has also worked at eBay in Brussels and in regulatory and corporate affairs at McDonald’s in Europe.

Also last week, LVMH said Patrick Ouart, an adviser to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, would return to the group to resume his role as advisor to Arnault. Ouart, 50, will also become member of LVMH’s executive committee.
