The young fashion firm NAHM of the design duo Nary Manivong and Alexandria Hilfiger is no more.
Market sources said the firm has had strategic meetings in the past month and decided earlier this week to shutter operations, effective immediately.

The design duo said in a joint statement, “At this time, we are parting ways and this will conclude the production of our line NAHM. We both believe this was an amazing experience and will continue to be supportive of each other personally and professionally.”
Rumblings that something was afoot surfaced when the firm abruptly canceled the presentation of its spring 2013 collection, which was set to show Friday at 11 a.m. at Milk Studios. According to sources familiar with the business, the collection was already completed, which was why the decision to close down operations took many by surprise.
The NAHM collaboration of Manivong and Hilfiger is based on the shirtdress, drawing from inspiration in men’s shirting details combined with feminine accents. NAHM, representing the initials of the two designers, also translates to water in Laotian.
NAHM was sold primarily in select specialty stores such as Satine in Los Angeles, A Man and A Woman in Manhattan and Neiman Marcus in Coral Gables, Fla., and Beverly Hills, Calif. Internationally, the line was available primarily in the Tokyo market such as at Aqua Girl and Hankyu Department Stores, although it was also sold in The Shop at Bluebird in London and at Sauce in Dubai.
Hilfiger is the daughter of Tommy Hilfiger.
In January, The Fashion Group International named Manivong and Hilfiger a Rising Star finalist for the women’s ready-to-wear category.
