Whiteley joins the Paris-based fashion house, part of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, from Louis Vuitton, where she has been general manager of the U.K., Ireland and Scandinavia since 2004.
The appointment confirms a report first carried in WWD last month.
Whiteley’s résumé also includes a stint as president and ceo of Alexander McQueen. She started her fashion career as part of Harvey Nichols’ graduate program and was named buying director of the London-based retailer in 1997.
At Givenchy, Whiteley succeeds Fabrizio Malverdi, who is moving over to Christian Dior next month to head up the Dior Homme business unit, as reported. Malverdi has been Givenchy’s ceo since 2008, shepherding it through a period of rapid growth.
