With the help of stylist and design partner Jeanne Yang, and in collaboration with Valextra, Holmes on Wednesday unveiled two handbag styles for the Valextra for Holmes & Yang collection. Yang and Holmes hosted a lunch for editors and socialites at Barneys New York to celebrate the collaboration.
Holmes is a fan of the brand and said, “Their quality is exceptional. There’s such integrity in their work — they’re artists.”
The bag is made of calfskin with several interior pockets and will be available in two different colorways; white and navy blue and white and shiny black. They will retail exclusively at Barneys beginning in July for $3,950.
Chief executive officer Emanuele Carminati Molina said, “This was our first collaboration [and it’s been] really incredible. We decided to follow the desires of Katie [Holmes] and Jeanne [Yang], who wanted to have their own bag realized by Valextra. Because they love our products…and we wanted to see, and understand which style they were wearing. We understood that the style is simple but very chic, clean lines, sophisticated, with a lot of attention to the details. I knew that it was good for Valextra to try, and to mix our style with their style.”
The entire design process encompassed two weeks. After tentative discussions in the fall concerning a possible collaboration, Holmes and Yang met with the Valextra team during the Milan collections in February, and began producing samples shortly thereafter.
Barneys is Valextra’s sole U.S. retailer. As additional testament to Barneys’ confidence in Valextra, the brand will be featured in a revamped space on the store’s main floor, previously home to Prada.
