Caitlin Kelly will launch her first independent collection of upscale swimwear for spring 2014. She introduced her own label a year ago at Jordan Taylor, and is now running her namesake business on her own.

The 35-piece collection will be shown in July at the Miami Swim Show and will be featured in a Mercedes-Benz fashion show on July 22 at 8 p.m. in the Cabana Grande of The Raleigh hotel in Miami.

The first-year wholesale sales projection is between $250,000 and $500,000, said Kelly.

Kelly started her career in 2006 at A.H. Schreiber Co., where she designed the swimwear line for Badgley Mischka. She then joined Aerin Rose Swimwear, a division of Jordan Taylor Resort, as head designer.

At Aerin Rose, she revamped the styles and fit and developed her junior line Signature by Aerin Rose. Kelly was later given the opportunity to become the firm’s creative director of swimwear.

But Kelly wanted to branch out on her own, and in March she began developing a high-end collection of maillots, bikinis and versatile cover-ups that have the look of eveningwear. Her fabrics of choice include Italian lace from Intesa, Sensitive microfiber from Eurojersey, silklike blends of micro-nylon and spandex, and a stretch Lurex of nylon and spandex. Colors include black, red, beige, gray and turquoise. All styles will have the logo name bar placed on the suits.

A key item is a multifunctional piece that can be worn in more than a dozen ways, including a variety of silhouettes, lengths and necklines, that Kelly calls Endless Possibilities.

“I like to work with fabrics that are not traditionally used in swimwear. These fabrics are unique and exclusive and are chlorine and salt water safe,” said Kelly.

Distribution is aimed at major specialty stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. The line will also be sold at Caitlin-kelly.com.

Suggested retail will be from $280 to $600.
