The first Lingerie Fashion Week dedicated exclusively to the intimate apparel industry will debut Feb. 22 and 23 in New York.
The event at the Metropolitan Pavilion will feature up-and-coming brands in formal runway fashion shows and presentations that will showcase collections for fall 2013.
Lauren Rich, founder and director of LingerieFW and founder of RichPR, said the concept of the shows is to enhance media exposure for both lingerie brands and designers who specialize in the intimates field.
“I thought, if women’s wear, men’s wear and swimwear have a fashion week, why can’t lingerie?” said Rich. “I think the timing is right with everything happening with celebs and pop culture and the world of lingerie.…This is also an opportunity to come together as an industry and collectively show new collections via the exciting, progressive and press-driven platform that is fashion week.”
Rich anticipates the venue will offer newness and innovation in a marketplace that is “set in its ways.”
“It’s a press-driven platform, but buyers are welcome to attend the shows as well. Retailers can then go to trade shows to buy,” she explained.
Six emerging brands will unveil collections at LingerieFW: Affinitas & Parfait, FYI by Dani Read, NaïS, Nevaeh Intimates, Rouge Séduire and Uye Surana. Innerwear categories will include bras, undies, loungewear, sleepwear, hosiery and men’s underwear.
A second edition of LingerieFW is being planned for August.
“So far, it’s really the emerging designers who have wanted to participate in LingerieFW,” said Rich. “But we are receiving lots of interest from more emerging brands as well as some established names about participating in a second edition in August.”
