Invista in Collaboration With Eurovet

The French trade-show giant will bring a taste of the Parisian Interfilière textile fair to North America.

Two major players may be entering the U.S. trade-fair circuit: Invista Inc. and French trade-show giant Eurovet.

Invista has entered into a collaboration with Eurovet to bring a taste of the Parisian Interfilière textile fair to North America.

The Invista-Eurovet union was created to connect key retailers, wholesalers and brands with leading global mills in a first-of-its-kind format in the U.S., which will be unveiled at a presentation in New York on Monday. The event, which will be staged at the Tribeca Skyline Studios from 3 to 9 p.m., will serve as an “ultimate workshop,” where retailers and textile executives will have access to international fabric suppliers from the intimates, swimwear and performance apparel markets, said Ninabeth Sowell, Invista’s senior marketing manager of intimate apparel for North America.

Sowell said the event will provide information on global fabric trends, technologies and existing and emerging resources in Asia, Europe and the U.S.

“We recognized that the dynamics of the market were changing, and that opportunities existed to provide enriched sourcing strategies for North American brands. Partnering with Eurovet and hosting this event in New York City allows us to create a more intimate environment to provide an in-depth appreciation of the global trends of the industry, as well as the capabilities of these expert mills and the fiber and fabric technologies of Invista,” explained Sowell.

Major retailers and manufacturers expected to attend the event will be Victoria’s Secret, Gap Inc., American Eagle Outfitters Inc., Lululemon Athletica Inc., PVH Corp., Jockey International, Maidenform Brands Inc., Wacoal America, Manhattan Beachwear Inc. and Fila USA.

Sowell said the idea for the collaboration followed a strong turnout at a Lycra fiber with W Technology event in New York in 2012. “As [sourcing and manufacturing] costs continue to change in Asia and people are looking at the way risks are changing, we thought it was a good time to bring the global mills here to broaden the discussion,” said Sowell. “I think Eurovet was also seeing the limited engagement on the part of companies, particularly North American participation in international shows, which has been more and more selective.”

She added that results of a survey conducted by Invista with more than 80 retailers, brands and mills concluded there is a huge demand for newness and innovation in the U.S. market.

“The number-one topic of interest was fabric and fiber innovation,” said Sowell.

Asked if the event is a prelude to the launch of a new textile fair in the U.S., Sowell replied, “We envision this event to be a kind of preview.…A bold step to something much bigger.”

From Eurovet’s perspective, chief executive officer Marie-Laure Bellon-Homps said 21 major fabric brands that exhibit at Interfilière will be at the event. “We saw an opportunity and made a selection of [textile] brands from Europe, Asia and America to come to New York.…This is not a trade show, it’s a trend presentation.…A test. If people are pleased we will take it further,” she said.
