Nicole Miller has signed a licensing agreement with the Carole Hochman Design Group to produce and distribute sleepwear, robes, foundations and daywear.

Miller and Carole Hochman, chairman and chief creative director of the Hochman firm, will work on design and creative development of the innerwear collections, which will be marketed by Miller’s studio. The lines will carry four labels: Nicole Miller Signature, Nicole Miller Collection, Nicole Miller New York and nicole by Nicole Miller, a J.C. Penney Co. Inc. exclusive.
The license, which became effective in mid-October and runs through March 31, 2014, will begin with sleepwear, robes and loungewear carrying the Nicole Miller Signature label at the February market for holiday 2011. Miller’s company severed its license with the D2 Brands division of Delta Galil Industries last summer.
“It’s definitely going to be sexy but in a modern way,” Miller said of the collections. “It won’t be frilly at all. It will be clean and hard-edged but will be comfortable.…I’ll also do signature pleating like my tidal wave and diamond pleating, which will give a unique look.”
Miller said the collections will feature whimsical prints similar to prints in her ready-to-wear and accessories collections, as well as solid colors. Fabrications will include silk, cotton blends and “some phenomenal synthetics coming out of Japan and Asia,” she said.
Suggested retail will be $50 to $80.
The wholesale sales projection for the first full year is $5 million, said Seth Morris, president of the Hochman company. Distribution of Nicole Miller signature sleepwear will be aimed at better specialty and department stores and 1,200 specialty stores that sell Nicole Miller apparel and accessories. There are plans to expand internationally, he said.
Bridal will be a key classification, Hochman said. “I love Nicole’s approach to bridal, very clean and contemporary…not just white, but also black. We definitely want to enter that market as well,” she said.
The Hochman firm already has 13 sleepwear brands, including licensees Oscar de la Renta, Lauren by Ralph Lauren and Betsey Johnson Intimates. Hochman said adding another major name to its portfolio would not “conflict with our other licensees like Betsey, who’s all about pink, black, bows and lace, or Oscar, which is more mature and traditional. There’s a unique space in the [innerwear] market for Nicole Miller.”
