Under Armour has named Karl-Heinz “Charlie” Maurath president of international, effective September 2012. Maurath, who joins from Adidas, will help drive overseas growth for the Baltimore-based activewear company, including its expansion into key global markets, and oversee its existing business in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
“Charlie’s international leadership, experience and proven track record of success are among the most impressive in the industry, and I am very [pleased] for him to join the Under Armour family,” said Kevin Plank, chief executive officer and founder of Under Armour. “Under Armour is deeply committed to continued international growth, and Charlie’s vast global expertise will be instrumental in our progress towards that goal.”
Maurath is credited with establishing Adidas Thailand, where he served as managing director. He then held the same position at Adidas Sweden, where he established and took on responsibility for Area Nordic. For the past nine years, he has been in charge of the company’s Latin American operation as senior vice president, and has overseen the Adidas, Reebok and TaylorMade brands in that region.
At the same time, Under Armour has hired James Hardy Jr. as chief supply chain officer and Fred Knowles as senior vice president of human resources. Hardy has worked for Procter & Gamble, The Clorox Co., ConAgra Foods Inc., The Dial Corp. and most recently, Hospira Inc., a spin-off of drug manufacturer Abbott Laboratories. Knowles was formerly senior vice president of enterprise human resources for Capital One Financial Corp. Before that, he also worked for Exult Inc. and Exxon Mobil Corp.
