NEW YORK — Christopher H. Peterson, 46, has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer of Ralph Lauren Corp.

He succeeds Tracey T. Travis, who resigned last month to become executive vice president and chief financial officer of The Estée Lauder Cos. Inc.
Peterson will be responsible for the company’s global finance and information technology organizations and will report to Roger Farah, president and chief operating officer. He begins Sept. 24.
Most recently, Peterson held several successively senior corporate and operational roles at Procter & Gamble Co., the last as chief financial officer of its Global Household Care division. In that role, he was responsible for the strategic and financial management of a group of businesses with combined annual revenues of about $45 billion. He began his career in Smith Barney’s investment banking division.
