The swimwear designer’s partially clothed body was found Thursday submerged in an overflowing bathtub at the Soho House in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. There were signs of injury on her neck, eyes, scalp and inside her mouth that were consistent with neck compression.

The 24-year-old Brooks, who is being held without bail, stands to face additional charges pending further autopsy results.

The initial autopsy results were inconclusive, but more tissue and toxicology tests are now being done by the New York City Chief Medical Examiner’s office. Brooks could face murder charges should Cachay’s death be ruled a homicide based on the autopsy report, which should be released in a week to 10 days, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

Cachay reportedly had tried to end her relationship with Brooks. A note that he had written to her that was found in her purse made it clear that he did not believe the relationship had come to an end, one source said. Brooks is scheduled to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court Tuesday, according to a spokeswoman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
