Herbert Hainer Takes New Role at Soccer Club

The Adidas chief executive also becomes chairman of the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG.

BERLIN — In addition to his post as chief executive officer of Adidas, Herbert Hainer has been named chairman of the supervisory board of FC Bayern München AG, the famous soccer club.

Hainer succeeds Uli Hoeness, one of Germany’s most popular soccer magnates. On Thursday Hoeness was sentenced to three and a half years in jail for evading 28.4 million euros, or $39.6 million, in taxes.

Hainer has long had ties to FC Bayern, previously serving as vice chairman of the club’s supervisory board.

In 2011, Adidas extended more than 50 years of cooperation between the German sportswear giant and the winning soccer team through to 2020.
