NEW YORK — Ivanka Trump is back in the apparel game.

G-III Apparel Group Ltd., has entered a licensing agreement with Trump to develop sportswear, dresses, suits, suit separates, sleepwear, activewear, jeanswear and intimates. The collection will be distributed to department stores and better specialty stores in the U.S., Canada and Mexico beginning in spring 2014.
Trump, one of the stars of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” has a growing fashion and lifestyle brand. She began her company in 2007 as a fine jewelry collection. Her current portfolio includes footwear (Mark Fisher Footwear); handbags (Mondani Handbags) and outerwear (Fleet Street Ltd.), as well as new deals for sunglasses (B. Robinson) and fragrance (Parlux) that launch in spring 2013.
In October, she severed her agreement with HMX Group, which was licensed to make the women’s ready-to-wear. That line was introduced to retailers this spring and was sold in stores such as Lord & Taylor, Macy’s, Nordstrom, The Bay, Von Maur and Belk.
“We are very excited to partner with Ivanka Trump on this inspiring collection of women’s apparel,” said Morris Goldfarb, chairman and chief executive officer of G-III.
Asked why she chose G-III, Trump told WWD, “They’re really just best in class. The quality of their execution at the price points I’m looking to sell my apparel category was second to none. I love that they’re a significant company in terms of size and scale. They’re a very large company, yet nimble as though they’re quite smaller. We do share each other’s vision of the future of my brand.”
Trump said it was too soon to discuss where the line will be manufactured and the price points. “I’ll be working closely with G-III and will be involved in all decisions. They have a great infrastructure to support the growth,” she said.
She said the price points for the apparel “will be consistent with my footwear, handbags and coats.”
Jeff Goldfarb, director of strategic planning at G-III, added that they have identified a core group of executives who will run the business at G-III headquarters at 512 Seventh Avenue. “We will build out a showroom that’s commensurate with what the brand needs. We’ll be aggressive about the rollout. We’ll start here and will go international eventually,” he said.
Trump’s various products are sold in stores and Web sites such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, Belk, Dillard’s, Lord & Taylor, Zappos.com and Piperlime. In addition, they are featured in her SoHo boutique at 109 Mercer St., which houses all her brands.
G-III, whose revenue is $1.29 billion, manufactures and distributes dresses, sportswear, swimwear, beachwear and women’s suits, as well as handbags and luggage under its own brands, licensed brands and private label. Its own brands include Vilebrequin, Andrew Marc, Marc New York and Marc Moto. Its licensed brands include Calvin Klein, Sean John, Kenneth Cole, Cole Haan, Jessica Simpson and Vince Camuto.
Trump said she is working on an e-commerce site, as well as deals for several new product categories. But becoming a fashion mogul takes up only part of her day. She continues to work at her father Donald’s Trump Organization, where she is executive vice president of development and acquisitions, and is charged with the domestic and global expansion of the company’s real estate footprint. “It keeps me busy. It’s a lot of fun,” she added.
