Kenneth Cole, Human Rights Campaign Team Up on T-shirt

The limited-edition T-shirt encourages Americans to support marriage equality.

NEW YORK — Partnering for the fifth year, Kenneth Cole and the Human Rights Campaign have issued a limited-edition T-shirt that encourages Americans to support marriage equality.

Designed by Cole, the T-shirt is inscribed with the message, “Equality…Get Married to the Idea.” It features a pink equal sign inspired by the HRC logo, which gained traction in social media this March in support of marriage equality as the Supreme Court heard two historic marriage cases.

“We are honored to partner with Kenneth Cole to bring ‘Awearness’ to the fight for LGBT equality,” said HRC creative director Don Kiser. “The fashion world has been with us from the beginning of the equality movement and stands with us during these historic times.”

Cole added, “We stand with the Human Rights Campaign for our fifth year and are eagerly awaiting the Supreme Court’s ruling on DOMA and Prop 8. Everyone is entitled to equal rights (and lefts); I hope that marriage is finally an option for all.”

The short-sleeve crew-neck T-shirt, in heather red, retails for $35. It will be sold throughout the month at select Kenneth Cole retail stores, on kennethcole.com, shop.hrc.org and HRC stores in Provincetown, Mass., San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Signage appears at all 99 of the Kenneth Cole retail and outlet stores.

One hundred percent of the net profits from the sale of each T-shirt will be donated to Awearness, The Kenneth Cole Foundation in support of HRC.

In addition, Cole will host in-store events June 27 in New York and San Francisco with local screen printers on site to print customers’ favorite Kenneth Cole and HRC graphic collaborations.
