Sidney Bundlie’s career as a fashion designer is off and running.
The sophomore from San Ramon Valley High School designed an Eighties-inspired dress as part of surf brand O’Neill’s fifth annual Generation Next design competition recently and took home the top prize: a $5,000 scholarship, an O’Neill wardrobe and design internship. Her design will also be incorporated into O’Neill’s spring collection.
Bundlie received her award during an event at The Galleria at the San Francisco Design Center that was sponsored by Teen Vogue and featured model Elyse Taylor sporting the dress. The evening also showcased Neoprene swimwear designed by Lauren Conrad, Marisa Miller, Jordana Brewster, A.J. Cook and Leven Rambin in honor of O’Neill founder Jack O’Neill’s invention of the wet suit. The pieces were auctioned online with the proceeds going to charity.
The design competition was conducted over six months and the winner was determined by a panel of experts as well as online voting. Bundlie and the other finalists worked with an O’Neill mentor on the dress design.
