With many Czech Republic residents worried about rising heating costs, it’s no wonder that locals know how to fend off the winter chill on the streets. For many women out and about in Prague last month, fur provided that much-needed extra warmth — whether in hats, coats, linings or scarves. One industrious pedestrian wrapped a black scarf around her hips — whatever works.
With the average January temperature hovering slightly above 20 degrees, most did their best to keep moving — so much so, that during a visit to the massive Prague Castle, scores of fidgety tourists bounced around the grounds looking as if they were part of a very unfortunate line dance. Beyond the castle’s walls, though, the locals were easy to spot, too — they were the ones who had no need for gloves.
