Tim Hamilton to Launch Basics Line for Bergdorf Goodman

The co-branded line, which launches next month, will be merchandised on the men’s designer sportswear floor.

Tim Hamilton will launch a new co-branded collaboration with Bergdorf Goodman next month. A capsule collection of classic items will be sold under the Tim Hamilton for Bergdorf Goodman label and priced about 30 percent lower than the New York-based designer’s collection line.

“I discussed with Bergdorf Goodman the idea of bringing in some fundamental pieces that cover key product classes but are still forward and modern in spirit,” said Hamilton. “The designs are relatively simple but we worked hard to elevate the quality and the details to make them special.”

The collection includes polos retailing for $195 to $250, chinos at $250 to $295, shirts at $225, hoodies at $295, cardigans at $325 and a blazer at $595. Fabrics are sourced from Europe — such as Loro Piana yarns for thermal layering pieces — and the bulk of the collection is made in Japan, apart from the blazer, which is made in the venerable Rocco Ciccarelli factory in Queens, N.Y.

“We wanted to create a line of modern essentials: the perfect chino, the perfect V-neck sweater, the perfect polo,” said Nickelson Wooster, men’s fashion director at Bergdorf Goodman. “We’ve carried Tim Hamilton since he launched [in 2007] and this was a logical step to continue our partnership.”

The line will be merchandised on the men’s designer sportswear floor, which also carries the likes of Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Paul Smith, Burberry Prorsum, Dries Van Noten and Thom Browne. Bergdorf Goodman will not carry the Tim Hamilton designer collection this season in order to focus on this new venture.

Hamilton continues to sell a separate contemporary line under the Tim Hamilton Redux label, which is priced 5 to 10 percent lower than the Bergdorf Goodman range. Redux is available in about 30 stores including Oak, Oki-Ni in London and Beams in Japan. Hamilton’s top-end designer collection is sold in about 35 stores, including Barneys New York, If Soho, L’Eclaireur in Paris and Edition in Japan.

Both the collection label and Redux will be shown during New York Fashion Week in separate presentations next month. Hamilton’s previous co-branded collaborations include projects with Topman, Uniqlo and Lacoste footwear.
