Zegna Acquires Silk Firm

The Ermenegildo Zegna empire just got a little bigger.

PARIS — The Ermenegildo Zegna empire just got a little bigger.

The men’s wear behemoth’s textile division, Lanificio Ermenegildo Zegna, said Tuesday it has acquired Tessitura di Novara, a high-end textile mill based in Novara, Italy. Financial terms and details were not disclosed.

Known for its premium silk, silk-cashmere and silk-wool blends for both men and women, the family-run Tessitura di Novara, founded in 1935, is said to supply a range of European designer firms.

“It’s an acquisition that is niche, but strategic,” stated Gildo Zegna, the group’s chief executive officer. “It brings an exclusive know-how in the silk industry, a portfolio of prestigious clients, and it further completes and adds additional credibility to our offering of fabrics in natural fibers dedicated to luxury garments.”

Ermenegildo Zegna produces the men’s wear for Tom Ford, among other brands.

Ford said in October he was gearing up for an imminent launch of his debut women’s line under his namesake brand.
