Week in Tech: 09/07/2013

What's new in the world of technology.

Calvin Klein's Tumblr page.

SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY NOW KEY TO SHOWS: For brands and designers showing this fashion week, having a broader, more digitally inclusive take on the event is now as much a necessity as having models for the shows — which in many cases are more about brand building than the clothes anyway.

FORMER TOPSHOP EXECUTIVE OPENS INNOVATE7: Justin Cooke, former chief marketing officer at Topshop, opened the doors of Innovate7 this week, making him founder and chief executive officer of what he calls the “first disruption agency.”

Tommy Hilfiger wants to elevate the digital experience surrounding his runway show on Monday — and he will use a combination of industry- and consumer-facing initiatives, like a global social concierge service, to do so.

NET-A-PORTER GOES TO PRINT: Luxury e-tailer Net-a-porter will launch its first print publication, Porter, in February of next year. Porter will be published six times a year with 300 pages that are shoppable via a mobile phone app.

MONIQUE LHUILLIER BOOSTS WEB PRESENCE: Monique Lhuillier unveiled a new Web site this week and will roll out e-commerce later this month, merchandised in tandem with her two flagships, carrying what’s popular in-store until an online identity is more established.

PATH VERSUS PINTEREST: Social network Path is trying to stop Pinterest from trademarking its signature P logo because Path thinks their stylized Ps are too similar.

ERICA DOMESEK’S BOOK TOUR: The 31-year-old creator of the DIY Web concept P.S. — I made this… is gearing up for the release of her second book, product collaborations with Bloomingdale’s and West Elm and the first relaunch of the site since it started as a Tumblr blog in 2009.

IVANKA TRUMP NAMES MARKETING CHIEF, HEAD OF DIGITAL: Ivanka Trump tapped Johanna Murphy as chief marketing officer and head of digital as the brand prepares for a repositioning and the addition of e-commerce.

GUCCI LINKS WITH GOOGLE MAPS: Gucci will be the first Italian luxury brand to launch indoor viewing on Google Maps, joining the Google Business Photos project.
