ANNA, ET AL., BACK IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Anna Wintour is coming to a living room near you.
Condé Nast’s artistic director and editor in chief of Vogue will star in the newest iteration of “The Fashion Fund,” a televised documentary that lifts the curtain on the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund competition.
If this sounds familiar, it’s probably because it is; the series ran on Hulu three seasons ago. The Hulu series was a Web show with episodes running just 23 minutes apiece.
The new series, however, consists of six, hour-long episodes that will air on Ovation TV beginning Jan. 22 at 10 p.m.
Ovation coproduced the show, along with Condé Nast Entertainment and Break Thru Films.
In addition to Wintour, who serves as one of the judges, “The Fashion Fund” features designer and Council of Fashion Designers of America president Diane von Furstenberg, J. Crew president Jenna Lyons, Theory cofounder and chief executive officer Andrew Rosen, Jeffrey Kalinsky, Nordstrom Inc. director of designer merchandising and president and ceo of Jeffrey Inc. and Ken Downing, fashion director and senior vice present of Neiman Marcus.
“This is not a contrived documentary,” said Ovation senior vice president of programming and production Scott Woodward. “These are really true fashion experts who have an amazing gift.”
Drawing a comparison between the show and “cinema vérité,” Woodward said: “It’s a true documentary. When Anna Wintour walks into the design studio, there’s a hush that comes over the design studio.”
Ovation noted that CNE reviewed the episodes before they were finalized. When asked specifically if Condé’s artistic director was in on that review process, the network said: “It was a very collaborative relationship, in which the coproducing parties all gave their notes, so we could arrive at a place where the spirit of the show is honored, and the viewer is compelled.”
Vogue will host a cocktail party tonight at Toro, a restaurant in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, to fete the show.
