BONNIER BROS.: David Zinczenko, the former Men’s Health editor in chief, has been tapped by Bonnier Corp. — where his brother Eric serves as executive vice president — to consult on its books business.

The editor, who had been dismissed by Maria Rodale last year after 12 years at the top of the masthead, became chief executive officer and president of Galvanized LLC.

Under a five-year management consulting deal, Zinczenko will help oversee the expansion of Bonnier’s branded book division, dubbed Bonnier Brands. The deal is not the first project for Galvanized. The editor is working with American Media Inc., as well as with Random House and ABC News, for spot television appearances in which he doles out nutrition and health advice. Those partnerships have kept him busy since his days at Rodale, where he helped develop its various fitness-focused publications.

According to Zinczenko, at Bonnier he’s looking to tap into the digital and online marketing opportunities that exist in the company’s books segment. “We’re looking at men’s, women’s, luxury — we have expertise across food and nutrition, health, fitness and sports, technology, style and grooming, so we’re going to focus on all those areas,” he said.

For example, Saveur magazine will be a “natural” partner under the new partnership, he noted, explaining that he’d like to build book-centric opportunities based on healthy recipes and editorial features.

“At Galvanized, we’re in a rapid growth and hiring phase,” Zinczenko said. “This is Day One, so stay tuned.”
