BURCH VS. BURCH: The media world is aflutter over reports that Christopher Burch’s new concept, C. Wonder, has ruffled Tory Burch’s feathers to the extent that the designer may be looking into potentially suing her ex-husband for trade dress infringement or usurpation of corporate opportunity. Both the New York Post and New York Magazine were said to be working on stories looking at the possible legal fight. The only hitch is that a lawsuit has yet to be filed, a detail confirmed by Tory Burch’s spokeswoman. Chris Burch could not be reached for comment Thursday. He remains co-chairman of Tory Burch but is looking to sell his stake in the company to focus on his own rapidly expanding business ventures, which include eight other retail concepts beyond C. Wonder.
A New York Magazine spokeswoman confirmed that the publication would have an article by Jessica Pressler on Chris and Tory Burch on Monday but declined to comment further. The Post did not respond to inquiries regarding its story, but sources said the paper has since decided not to proceed with one.
